Noun Phrase and Verb Phrase

In this good occasion let me show you some materials about noun phrase and verb phrase. And lets study together~

NOUN PHRASE (NP): A group of related words that can act as a single noun-like within unity in a sentence.

Noun phrases start with determiners which are placed at the beginning of noun phrase. It’s divided into 2 part; basic and complex noun phrase.

There are eight types of basic noun phrase:

1. Noun. Only consist of noun. Example: book, pencil, ruler, etc..

2. Det+Noun. Consist of determiner and noun. Example: a book, the star, etc..

3. Quantifier+Noun. Consist of quantifier and noun. Example: some books.

4. Adjective+Noun. Consist of adjective and noun. Example: black hair.

5. Quantifier+Det+Adj+N. Consist of quantifier, determiner, adjective, and noun. Example: all those birds are flying in the sky.

6. Det+Adv+Adj+N. Consist of determiner, adverb, adjective, and noun. Example: Kyungsoo has the most incredible voice in EXO.

7. Det+Adj+N. Consist of determiner, adjective, and noun. Example: my handsome boy.

8. Q+Det+N. Consist of quantifier, determiner, and noun. Example: some of books in the table.

There are two types of complex noun phrase:

1. Pre-Modifier, including modifiers that stand alone before the head of complex noun.

a. Determiner

b. Adverb

c. Adjective Phrase

d. Noun

2. Post-Modifier, including modifiers that stand alone after the head of complex noun phrase.

a. Adjective

b. Prepositional phrase

c. Infinitive

d. Participle

e. Relative clause

VERB PHRASE (VP) are verbs that are made up of more than one word. Verb phrases consist of a main verb alone, or a main verb plus any modal or auxiliary verbs (helping verbs). Those helping verbs are; could, would, should, can, will, shall, may, might, must, did, do, does, and forms of “to be” (was, were, am, are, is, have been, has been, will be, will have been, and being).

There are two types of verb phrase: basic verb phrase and intermediate phrase. PHRASE is a group of words that have a function in a sentence

Is compound word that doesn’t consist of subject and verb

VERB PHRASE is consist of an auxilliary, or helping verb and a main verb.

There are four types of basic verb phrase:

1. Main verb

I am here

I like it

2. The auxiliary verb be and a main verb in the -ing form

Everyone is watching

Daniel is swimming

We are celebrating santri's day

3. The auxiliary verb have and a main verb in the past participle form

They have enjoyed the tv show

I had listened Marcos Hernandez's song

She has washed her car

4. A modal verb (can, could, may, should, will, shall, must) and a main verb

I will come

We shall dance

I can understand it

Also there are three types of intermediate verb phrase:

1. The auxiliary verb have and been and a main verb in -ing form:

I have been waiting here

She has been loving you that much

**A verb phrase with have, been and the -ing form expresses both perfect aspect and continuous aspect. A verb with have/has expresses present perfect continuous and a verb with had expresses past perfect continuous.

2. A modal verb and the auxiliaries be, have, and have been:

I will be arrived

She must have been studying hard

3. The auxiliaries verb be and a main verb in the past participle form:

English is spoken all over the world

I will be arrived soon

**A verb phrase with be and the past participle expresses passive voice.

There is also advanced level of verb phrase for:

1. Emphasis

I do love you with all my heart

I did enjoyed the party. It was great!

2. Polities invitation
