Adjective and Determiner

An adjective modifies a noun or a pronoun. To modify means “to describe” or “to make more definite."

Big, pretty, expensive, green, round, French, loud, quick, fat.

Example in sentence :
My brother has round face.

ーThe old lady was talking in a quiet voice.

1. Opinion
Such as: Nice, pretty, stupid, original, expensive, etc.
I prefer Thai Tea original taste.

2. Size
Such as: Big, small, large, tiny, enormous, little, etc.
Baekhyun look so tiny when standing next to Chanyeol.

3. Age
Such as: Young, old, new, ancient, antique, etc.
We still hot and young.

4. Shape
Such as: Round, square, flat, straight, etc.
I buy flat shoes.

5. Color
Such as: Blue, red, white, black, dark, bright, yellowish, etc.
I stare at his dark eyes.

6. Origin
Such as: Italian, British, Mexican, western, southern, etc.
I love japanese music.

7. Material
Metal, wooden, plastic, golden, etc.
Take the poridge with wooden spoon.

Determiners are words that are used before nouns to show which person or thing you are talking about.
Determiners come before a noun to show which person or thing the noun refers to.

1. Articles is the main group of determiners, with the words
“a/an” and “the” which are used before a noun.
a. Definite articles are those that point a particular person or thing. It can be used I front of singular as well as plural countable and uncountable noun
e.g: He saw the movie
b. Indefinite articles are those articles that leave a person or thing undetermined or confused.
e.g: He is a teacher
I have a book

2. Demonstrative adjectives
These adjectives indicate the noun that is being referred to. (This, these, that, those)
e.g: This apple is mine.
These apples are mine.
That bear is cute.
Those bears are cute.

3. Difference words
Description: Difference words are used when you want to refer to something different, additional, or remaining.
e.g. Other (used with singular or plural nouns)
Do you have any other children?
Dean will eat the other piece of pizza.
Another (used with singular nouns)
I would like another book.

4. Distributives
Description: Distributives are used to refer to how people or things are divided or shared within a group (each, every, either, neither)
e.g.
The teacher hands a paper to each student.
The teacher grades every paper after school.
Do you want blue sock or red sock ?
I will be happy with either sock.
Clara eats neither pecel nor ketoprak.

5. Numbers (cardinal and ordinal)
Description: Numbers are used to tell an exact amount (one, two, three) or a certain order (first, second, third.) one

Examples:
There were seventeen children at the party.
She was the first person to come.

6. Possessive pronouns
These pronouns are used to show posession or belonging. (my, your, his, her, their, our, ....’s)
e.g: This is my friend.
Billi’s blue car.

7. Quantifiers
Description: Quantifiers tell us the number of each noun. They tell us "how much" or "how many."
These are just a few of the quantifiers that can be used as determiners.

Examples:
Please hand me a few tissues.
Both children played in the sandbox.
Tim is fond of most animals.
He needs some crayons.

8. Question or defining words
Description: Question words ask which thing or person is being referred to by the speaker. Defining words explain which thing or person is being referred to.
which
Which house is yours? (question)
I will show you which house is mine. (defining)
what
What book did you read? (question)
whose
Whose dog is that? (question)
That is the man whose dog was in your yard. (defining)

To make a sentence we need to order the word by it categories. Starting from determiner to material.

1. Determiner (a, an, the, some, any, one)
2. Opinion (wonderful, great, luxurious)
3. Size (big, small, long, wide)
4. Age (old, new)
5. Shape (round, oval)
6. Color (blue, black)
7. Origin (Indonesian, Korean)
8. Material (wooden, golden)

Example:
Sebuah topi kecil yang unik
A unique little hat
(Determiner -> opinion -> size -> noun)

Verb and Adverb by 3rd Group

Verb and Adverb

● Verb is word that show an action, occurance, or state of being. Almost every sentence need a verb.

○ The types of the verb

Main verb is the head of a verb phrase in a sentence or a clause. Example:
° Dilan is dating Milea.
° Iqbaale has deleted Nurani's massage.

Auxiliary verb is for helping a main verb and cannot stand alone.
1. Primary auxiliary verb: to be, do, have, etc.. Example: David is a handsome boy.
2. Modality auxiliary verb: may, can, should, etc.. Example: Samuel may sit next to me.
3. Emphasize auxiliary verb: do, does. Example: I do love Kyuhyun.

○ The types of verb

Transitive verb is a verb that need an object. Example: Taka writes a letter for his brother.
Intransitive verb is a verb that doesn't need an object in a sentence. Example: Brian and Onepil walk together in the morning.

○ The types of verb

Regular: talk-talked-talked, walk-walked-walked, type-typed-typed.
Irregular: write-wrote-written, drink-drank-drunk, sing-sang-sung.

○  The types of verb

Finite verb is a verb that shows the influence of tenses, person, and number in sentence/clause. Example:
° Rocky has been reading for 30 minutes.
° Felix and Chenle go to school together.

Non Finite verb is a verb that doesn't show the influences of tenses, person, and number in sentence/clause. Example:
Arin wants to make a meal for dinner.

○ The types of verb

Action verb
° Activities; eat, listen, play, etc.. Example: Mark plays guitar next to me.

° Process; change, melt, shorten, etc.. Example: Yunoh makes me melting.

° Momentary; hit, jump, knock, etc.. Example: Johnny kick the ball.

Stative verb
° Emotions; appreciate, love, like, etc.. Example: I love Kyuhyun.

° Mental states; agree, know, remember, etc.. Example: I remember when we first met.

° Sense or appreance; heard, etc.. Example: Dean heard the sound of wind blowing.

° Need and preference; desire, need, want, etc.. Example: I need a hug to relieve a fatigue.

° Possession; belong, have, own, etc.. Example: My heart has only you.

° Measurement; cost, owe, weight, etc.. Example: Dava owes me a cup of coffe.

● Adverb is a part of speech used to describe a verb, adjective, clause, or another adverb.

Types and examples of adverb
1. Adverb of Time
➡ adverbs that tell when an action occurred, or its time. (now, today, yesterday, etc.) Example: The concert is starting now.
2. Adverb of Place & Direction
➡ adverbs tell the location of an action, or where it occurred. (here, outside, there, etc.)
Example: I'll be right here waiting for you.
3. Adverb of Manner
➡ describe how something was done or the manner in which it was done. (automatically, briskly, cheerfully)
Example:  The corner's of my lips automatically pull up when he comes.
4. Adverb of Degree
➡ describe to what extent something was done or an action was executed (almost, also, absolutely, etc)
Example:  It almost paradise when he said he loves me.
5. Adverb of Modality or Certainty
➡ to state the level of confidence. (likely, maybe, probably, etc)
Example: Maybe he will forget about me.
6. Adverb of Frequency
➡ to state how often an activity or event is done happened. (always, often, reraly, etc.)
Example: Dava always reciting bismillah before do a thing.
7. Adverb of Purpose
➡ to answer the “why” question.
Example: He came to fix my computer.
8. Focusing adverb
➡ to show that what is being discussed is limited to the focused part. (also, just, only)
Example: My heart has only you.

Noun and Pronoun by 2nd Group

Last week our class studied about Noun and Pronoun leaded by the 2nd Group. Let's get it guys!

A. Noun

Noun is a word that refers to a person, place, thing or idea. There are 5 kinds of noun:

1. Concrete and Abstract Noun
Concrete noun is thing we can touch or perceive with one of our senses. Example: newspaper, glass, jewelry, etc..
Abstract noun is thing we cannot touch or perceive by our senses. Example: love, honesty, mind, etc..

2. Singular and Plural Noun
Singular noun is noun that only has one thing/single thing. Example: box, bed, man, etc..
Plural noun is noun that has not only one thing in it (jamak). Example: boxes, beds, men, etc..

3. Animate and Inanimate Noun
▪ Animate noun is things that are alive. Example: lizard, doctor, mouse, etc..
▪ Inanimate noun is things that are not alive. Example: word, book, pillow, etc..

4. Countable and Uncountable Noun
▪ Countable noun is noun which can be count. Example: store, hand, finger, etc..
▪ Uncountable noun is noun which cannot be count. Example: energy, milk, water, etc..

5. Proper and Common Noun
Proper noun is noun which has its actual name, already has it owns name. Example: pepsi, disneyland, Indonesia, etc..
Common noun is noun which still common, doesn't has it owns name. Example: river, tv, company, etc..

B. Pronoun

Pronoun is a part of speech which is used in place of a noun that has already been mentioned or that is already known, often to avoid repeating the noun. There are 8 kinds of pronoun:

1. Personal Pronoun: the basic pronoun that used to personal/people in personal; I, you, they, we, she, he, it.

2. Indefinite Pronoun: pronoun that directly point to one or more object to non-spesific person/place; any, anybody, someone, somebody, etc..

3. Reflexive Pronoun: pronoun which comes after adverb or adjective. Directly to a thing; myself, yourself, itself, etc..

4. Demonstrative Pronoun: pronoun that directly pointing a proper thing in sentence. This pronoun can indicated room/time and also singular/plural noun; this, that, these, those.

5. Possessive Pronoun: this pronoun shows the possessiveness; mine, yours, his, etc..

6. Interrogative Pronoun: pronoun that can makes question easier. There are 5 kinds of Interrogative Pronoun; whose, whom, who, which, what.

7. Reciprocal Pronoun: pronoun to indicated there are two or three persons who do an action. Which each of them feel the consequence and benefit from the action they did; each other and one another.

8. Intensive Pronoun: it seems like reflexive pronoun that ended by self/selves. This pronoun to give an emphasize in seentence; himself, yourself, themselves, etc..
