Complex Sentence


Good afternoon excelent people! I just want to share about this complex sentence's materials which I got from the learning syntax in my college. lets get it!

Complex Sentence

What is sentence?
Sentence is a group of words that you use to communicate your ideas in writing or in speech
A sentence is a group of words expressing a complete thought. In a sentence, there are consist two main parts: subject and predicate.
Subject is the word or words that names the person, thing, or place that a sentence is about. It is usually a noun or pronoun.
Predicate makes a statement about the subject. It consists of a verb and its modifiers or complements. The verb expresses action or a state of being.
THE SIMPLE SENTENCE

1. when we speak, we often say things like
All right! Good!
Want my help?
These are complete units of meaning, but they are not real sentences
2. A simple sentence is a complete which contains a subject and a verb followed by other words which make up the meaning
The bird flew away                          a sentence
The man in the street               not a sentence
3. The subject may be hidden
Open the door, really means YOU open the door.
All simple sentences must contain at least one subject and one predicate, or verb. However sometimes, the subject, the predicate, or both may be compound.
The sentences below are all simple sentences even tough they have compound parts:
Ø  compound subject : Apes and monkeys are primates.
Ø  compound predicates: scientists observe and study wildlife.
Ø  compound subject and compound predicate : Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey observed and studied primates in the wild.

           
Ø  A complete sentence has a subject and verb and relate a complete of thought. Example: “He enjoys his meal”
Ø  When we have to use an object after some verbs; e.g. contain, bring, hit, enjoy. We call the verbs as transitive verbs. Example: “He brings some foods”
Ø  Some verbs never take an object; e.g. arrive, come, go, sleep. We call these intransitive verbs.             
Ø  Example: “The baby is sleep”
Ø  Some verbs can be used transitively and intransitively; e.g. begin, drop, hurt, open, win, etc. Example:
“The team won the game”. (Transitive)
or
“The team won”. (Intransitive)
Ø  Warning: Do not begin a sentence with a subordinate conjunction because it will make it an incomplete meaning. Example:
“Because you are pilot”.
Complex sentence   are used to express complex ideas by:
Showing how ideas and/or events are related to each other
Providing extra information about certain words or phrases.
A  Complex sentence consists of a main clause and one or more subordinate clauses.
Simple sentence
One clause simple:
My friend invited me to a party. i dont want to go.
Compound sentence main clauses linked by coordinating conjunctions compound:
My friend invited me to a party, but I don’t want to go.
Complex sentence:
Main clause + one or
More subordinate clauses complex:
Although my friend invited me to a party, I don't want to go.

An independent clause
Definition: An independent clause is a group of words that has a subject and verb. It is used as a part of sentence but is grammatically independent and it could therefore stand alone.
Example: Because you come late more than 20 minutes, you are not allowed to fill the present list
Kind of dependent clause
1.  Adverb clauses
A dependent adverb clause begins with an adverbial subordinator such as when, while, because, although, if, so that, etc.
Example:
Although Ahmad was sick, he went to class.
Ahmad went to class although he was sick.
Notice: if an adverb clause comes before the independent clause, it is followed by a comma (sentence 1).
If it comes after the independent clause, no comma is used.
2. Adjective clauses
A dependent adjective (relative) clauses begins with a relative pronoun such as who, whom, which, whose, or that, or with a relative verb such as when or where.
Example: Men who are not married are called bachelors.
3. Noun clause
A dependent noun clause function as a noun. A dependent noun clause can be either a subject, or an object. No comma are necessary.
There are three type of noun clauses:
  • those-clauses are made from statements and are introduced by the subordinator  that.
Example:
The bulletin states that science courses require a laboratory period.
Scientists believe that they can discover the medicine for HIV
  • Wh-word clauses
Example:
I don’t know what to wear this morning.
  • if/ whether clauses
Example: I don’t know whether I should come or no.

Compound Sentence


Good morning guys, its glad to post something again, here. in this chance I would like to share about what is compound sentence. check this out people!

Compound sentence
It contains two or more independent clauses and no subordinate clauses.
Independent Clause maybe joined by a comma and a coordinating conjunction, by correlative conjunctions, by a semicolon (;), by conjunctive adverb or by transitional expression.
·         Coordinative conjunction
These conjunction join equal sentence parts.
These are seven coordinate conjunctions:
-          For (Reason)
-          And (Argumentation)
-          Nor (Contrast)
-          But (Contrast)
-          Or (Contrast)
-          Yet (Contrast)
-          So (Reason)

·         Correlative conjunction
These conjunction, as seen in the case of compound subjects and predicates, are used in pairs.
-          Either … or …
-          Neither … nor …
-          Both … and …
-          Not only … but also …

·       Conjunctive Adverbs
These adverbs, like coordinate and correlative conjunction, are used to connect basic sentence patterns and make compound sentences.

These expression are usually prepositional phrase used as adverbs.
-          After all
-          As a result
-          At any rat
-          By the way
-          For example
-          For instance
-          Even so
-          In fact
-          In other words
-          On the contrary
-          On the other hand
-          In addition

Example:
1)      He was deeply hurt by her remarks, but he said nothing to her.
2)      Both Reza and Yogi are in love with my sister.
3)      We should turn our assignment before 12 o’clock; otherwise, the professor will not accepted them.
4)      Not Indonesian muslims go back to their hometown for Iedul Adha; for instance, students who study and live abroad stay in their respective country presidence.
5)      The Riam Kanan is on the Riam Kanan River in Mandiangin, South Kalimantan; it is the biggest in South Kalimantan
Compound complex sentence
It is the most complicated sentences.  contains two or more independent clauses (coordinate) and at least one dependent clause (subordinate).
  1. Example: Kate doesn’t like cartoons because they are loud, so she doesn’t watch them.
  2. My brother doesn’t like K-drama because it is boring, so he ignore it.
  3. Usually I take a walk everyday while the sun sets, but it was raining today.
  4. I can start a conversation that makes people interested, but it’s hard to keep it going because I often run out of things to say.

Adverbial Phrase and Prepositional Phrase


Hello guys~ let we study again about the friend's of noun phrase and verb phrase these are adverbial phrase and prepositional phrase. without too much words, let we start, shall we?

Adverbial Phrase
      Adverb phrase is a group of words that serves the same purpose as an adverb. Adverb phrase can modify an adjective or another adverb.
Example :
Calum is very cute
Even drives the car slowly

Adjective Phrase
      Adjective phrase consist of adjectives together with elements which complement or modify them in different ways.

The function of Adjective Phrase
      Adjective phrases have two primary functions.
First, they can be used to modify nouns inside noun phases.  Example: the scarcity of supplies has become (an increasingly difficult problem)
Second, as predicatives in clause structure, following verbs like be, become, seem, etc.

Example: Maintaining a reasonable level has become increasingly difficult

**Adjective phrases before a noun are called atributive phrases

Prepotional Phrase
      Prepotional phrase are group of words containing prepositions. Remember that prepsition are words that indicate the relationships between various elements within a sentences, and you’ll never have difficulty identifiying prepositional phrase. Examples :
            we climb up the hill
            Zayn’s book is on the table
