Adjective and Determiner

An adjective modifies a noun or a pronoun. To modify means “to describe” or “to make more definite."

Big, pretty, expensive, green, round, French, loud, quick, fat.

Example in sentence :
ーMy brother has round face.

ーThe old lady was talking in a quiet voice.

1. Opinion
Such as: Nice, pretty, stupid, original, expensive, etc.
I prefer Thai Tea original taste.

2. Size
Such as: Big, small, large, tiny, enormous, little, etc.
Baekhyun look so tiny when standing next to Chanyeol.

3. Age
Such as: Young, old, new, ancient, antique, etc.
We still hot and young.

4. Shape
Such as: Round, square, flat, straight, etc.
I buy flat shoes.

5. Color
Such as: Blue, red, white, black, dark, bright, yellowish, etc.
I stare at his dark eyes.

6. Origin
Such as: Italian, British, Mexican, western, southern, etc.
I love japanese music.

7. Material
Metal, wooden, plastic, golden, etc.
Take the poridge with wooden spoon.

Determiners are words that are used before nouns to show which person or thing you are talking about.
Determiners come before a noun to show which person or thing the noun refers to.

1. Articles is the main group of determiners, with the words
“a/an” and “the” which are used before a noun.
a. Definite articles are those that point a particular person or thing. It can be used I front of singular as well as plural countable and uncountable noun
e.g: He saw the movie
b. Indefinite articles are those articles that leave a person or thing undetermined or confused.
e.g: He is a teacher
I have a book

2. Demonstrative adjectives
These adjectives indicate the noun that is being referred to. (This, these, that, those)
e.g: This apple is mine.
These apples are mine.
That bear is cute.
Those bears are cute.

3. Difference words
Description: Difference words are used when you want to refer to something different, additional, or remaining.
e.g. Other (used with singular or plural nouns)
Do you have any other children?
Dean will eat the other piece of pizza.
Another (used with singular nouns)
I would like another book.

4. Distributives
Description: Distributives are used to refer to how people or things are divided or shared within a group (each, every, either, neither)
e.g.
The teacher hands a paper to each student.
The teacher grades every paper after school.
Do you want blue sock or red sock ?
I will be happy with either sock.
Clara eats neither pecel nor ketoprak.

5. Numbers (cardinal and ordinal)
Description: Numbers are used to tell an exact amount (one, two, three) or a certain order (first, second, third.) one

Examples:
There were seventeen children at the party.
She was the first person to come.

6. Possessive pronouns
These pronouns are used to show posession or belonging. (my, your, his, her, their, our, ....’s)
e.g: This is my friend.
Billi’s blue car.

7. Quantifiers
Description: Quantifiers tell us the number of each noun. They tell us "how much" or "how many."
These are just a few of the quantifiers that can be used as determiners.

He needs some crayons.

8. Question or defining words
Description: Question words ask which thing or person is being referred to by the speaker. Defining words explain which thing or person is being referred to.

I will show you which house is mine. (defining)

What book did you read? (question)

Whose dog is that? (question)
That is the man whose dog was in your yard. (defining)

To make a sentence we need to order the word by it categories. Starting from determiner to material.

1. Determiner (a, an, the, some, any, one)
2. Opinion (wonderful, great, luxurious)
3. Size (big, small, long, wide)
4. Age (old, new)
5. Shape (round, oval)
6. Color (blue, black)
7. Origin (Indonesian, Korean)
8. Material (wooden, golden)
